Andrew Luck Misses First Game Of His NFL Career

A right shoulder injury forced quarterback Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts to sit out their game against the Jackson Jaguars. The game, which the Colts won 16-13, is the first time Luck missed a game in his entire career.

Indianapolis coach Chuck Pagano said they worked with him on Saturday and were hoping he would be ready by Sunday morning. However, after an evaluation they decided Luck was not ready for the game. He did not have the arm strength needed for the game.

Luck was replaced by Matt Hasselbeck, who finished with 30-of-47 for 282 yards. Hasselbeck also had a touchdown for the win of the Colts.

The game gave Hasselbeck the distinction of becoming the oldest quarterback to become a part of the starting lineup in an NFL since the 41-year-old Brett Favre in 2010. Pagano said Hasselbeck played well and the team was proud of what he did in the game. He also called Hasselbeck “a true pro,” and he was happy to have him in the team.

It remains to be seen if Andrew Luck will be able to play in week 5 due to the short week of the Colts. The next game of the Colts will be at Houston on Thursday. Pagano said Luck will work out on Monday and they will evaluate him on a day-to-day basis. The shoulder of Luck was injured during their game against the Tennessee Titans.

Andrew Luck has not missed an NFL game in his career due to injury, and the last time he missed a game was at the 2009 Sun Bowl while he was still playing for Stanford.
