Bill Cosby’s NBC Sitcom Stopped In Its Tracks

Plans for a Bill Cosby sitcom on NBC have been stopped after the legendary comedian has had rape allegations brought up against him. This isn’t the only part of Cosby’s comeback that has been stopped in its tracks as Netflix has also announced it is postponing its Cosby stand-up special that was scheduled for next week.

Plans for an NBC sitcom that was centered on Cosby were first announced back in January. The pilot for the series was to be written by Mike O’Malley from Glee fame and Mike Sikowitz. While the show was nowhere near completion, NBC was preparing a fall 2015 debut until the scandal broke out.

In fact, it was the announcement of Cosby’s comeback to primetime that started the media and social media focus on his past. Cosby was never arrested or convicted of any crimes even though recent allegations accuse the comedian of drugging and sexually abusing several women in the 1970s and 1980s.

NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke told reports last summer that the network is “committed” to the show while the network’s entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt said that his main focus is to promote shows he thinks “are good.”

Cosby has declined to answer any questions in regards to the allegations with his attorney John P. Schmitt declaring that his client will not dignify “decades old discredited allegations” by commenting.
