Bus Attack Can Shake Uneasy Peace In Ukraine

The attack that left 12 people dead in the Easter Ukrainian city of Donetsk was probably the final blow to the uneasy and hardly maintained peace agreement signed between the pro-Russian rebels and the Ukrainian government.

The sounds of explosions and the death of innocent citizens is nothing new to the new rebel held city of Donetsk. A new peace agreement between the belligerents was struck in December, however, as soon as the holiday season ended so did the hopes of a prolonged peace treaty.

In the biggest tragedy in 2015 so far, 12 civilians were killed while commuting from Donetsk, in what Ukrainian sources say was an attack from Rebel held positions with a Grad launcher.

Ukrainian military forces declared that the bus was passing by an official army checkpoint when it was fired upon. One of the leaders of the rebel held regions, Denis Pushilin declared that separatists were not involved in the attack or in the breaking of the truce.

Other leaders including the unofficial president of the region Alexander Zakharchenko declared that the attack suggests an impending attack from the Ukrainian army. Zakharchenko also accused the Ukrainian army of breaking the cease fire and said he would instruct his fighters to respond in the same way.

NATO spokesperson Gen. Philip Breedlove declared that separatist forces have been training and have been resupplied from Russia for the entire duration of the ceasefire with more unmarked trucks heading their way in recent days.
