Ebola Outbreak in Uganda

Ebola virus caused the death of at least 14 people this month and Uganda officials are trying to track down those who had contact with the victims, as reported by the authorities last Monday.

According to the spokesman of WHO, Gregory Hartl, this preventive measure is important and it is also necessary for these contacts to be observed for an incubation period of 21 days. The officials from Uganda, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the WHO made up a team which objective is to stop the current outbreak of this infectious disease.

Yoweri Museveni, Ugandan president, spoke on state and was quoted, "I therefore appeal to you to be vigilant. Avoid shaking of hands; do not take on burying somebody that has died from symptoms which look like Ebola. Instead, call the health workers to be the ones to do it. And avoid promiscuity because these sicknesses can also go through sex,”

The outbreak in western Uganda happened only this month of July and was initially went undetected because of atypical symptoms. Ministry of Health declared the outbreak in Kibaale district after having confirmatory results that disease that was present is Ebola hemorrhagic fever, Sudan strain.
