French Police In Manhunt For Two Brothers Behind Terrorist Attack

Police in France has hunted down and killed two brothers believed to be behind the heinous attack on a satirical newspaper which led to the death of 12 people. The paper, which often had a humorous approach on religious topics including Islam was attacked this Wednesday by two men who wielded an impressive amount of fire power.

Police forces in all of France launched an unprecedented manhunt destined to capture the two brothers, one of whom, Cherif Kouachi, is a known jihadist with a history for transporting jihadi fighters in Iraq as well as a terrorism conviction in 2008. The two brothers were finally found and killed in a shootout in the city of Reins north of Paris.

Thursday was a day of morning in France after an attack which was deemed by the Republic’s President “an exceptional act of barbarism.” The attack also meant the terrorism alert level went on its highest level with military and police providing air, land and vehicle support in an effort to catch the attackers.

According to a police description the two brothers were both in their early 30s and were both from the Paris region. A third assailant, an 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad from Reims was also included in the police description, however, he shortly surrendered at a police station with an alibi after hearing his name was included in the manhunt.

The attack, which left 12 victims including two police officers and the newspaper’s star editor, was a shocking example of military precision with the two heavily armed men wielding powerful automatic weapons.
