GoPro To Introduce New Products In The Market

GoPro is aiming to introduce two new products for the virtual reality and drone markets. Nick Woodman revealed that a six-camera device with the capability of recording spherical content will be introduced by the company before the end of the year.

The GoPro CEO made the revelation during an interview at the Recode Code conference held in California recently. The products are part of the planned expansion of the company to go beyond selling cameras for adventure seekers.

The Six-Camera Spherical Array of the company is an accessory that can hold six Hero4 cameras and allow them to capture images and videos from numerous angles. A 360-ddegree virtual reality environment can be created by putting together the content using Kolor. The technology was developed by a virtual reality software manufacturer based in France that was acquired by the company.

Virtual reality headsets, such as the HoboLens of Microsoft, Google Cardboard and Oculus, can be used in viewing the content. Users can also use the app of Kolor and YouTube 360 in viewing the content.

The company is also set on developing its own camera array. Free online software released by Google two years ago allows users to produce interactive photo-spheres. Google also offers a virtual reality platform to facilitate the creation of VR experiences by developers.

Facebook also announced that it will provide support for spherical videos through its News Feed. The social networking company also revealed plans of incorporating the videos into Oculus.

The camera manufacturer is also aiming at producing its own drone or quadcopter. While Woodman did not offer any specific details, he revealed that the drone may enter the market before the end of next year. Producing a drone is a sensible move for GoPro since its cameras are often used in capturing landscapes and movie sequences.
