June In-Store Availability Of Apple Watch Seen

A memo released by Angela Ahrendts, retail chief of Apple, revealed that the Apple Watch may not be available in stores any time soon.

The memo responded to questions on whether the smartwatch offering of Apple will fill up the shelves of Apple stores in coming weeks or not. In-store purchases of the device may not start until after May, the memo indicated.

Apple had earlier said that watch sales will be limited to online orders during its initial launch period. However, the company did not give a time frame for this period. The memo also clarified the issue on the availability of the first wearable tech of Apple.

While the device will only be available through online orders for the moment, Ahrendts said it will eventually be offered through the retail outlets of the company. The in-store availability date of the Apple Watch will be announced by Ahrendts once the date is finalized.

The memo also indicated that delivery of the Apple will be facilitated if the order is placed online. Since the wearables category is new for the company, it necessitates the use of a different sales approach, Ahrendts added. Due to this, the company is allowing customers to test the device before shipping will start.

Ahrendts also said that the marketing approach used for the first wearable device will not be used for future product launches of the company. She said that the company will have a number of blockbuster product launches in the future.

The huge number of people pre-ordering the device online resulted to a shipment backlog that is expected to last until May. It may also be possible for some customers to wait until June before they will receive their pre-ordered device. But, a number of people are lucky enough to be able to receive the Apple Watch next week when the pre-orders are scheduled to be delivered.
