Michael Douglas feels better after undergoing throat cancer treatment

Movie legend Michael Douglas said on Thursday that he is quickly regaining strength after finishing his cancer treatment regimen which he called “hell.” Douglas was given a throat cancer diagnosis last August which was already in stage four. Doctors informed him he has an 80 percent chance of beating throat cancer if he tolerates the treatment well. A Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan scheduled next month will confirm if his tumor the size of a walnut has been destroyed or at least shrunk.

“I’m five weeks out after treatment and starting to get my energy back. They warn you that even when you stop, the next few weeks you’re still getting knocked out by the radiation, so it’s a slow recovery,” Douglas told the Los Angeles Times. “I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. It’s a haul. But I’m feeling hopeful and just trying to get my energy back,” he added. “That’s the biggest problem.”

The Oscar winner disclosed his illness to his family in September after returning from a family vacation. His wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, was furious with his doctors because his husband was not diagnosed early for treatment to start soon.

Michael Douglas told People Magazine that chemotherapy and radiation treatment was very tough and he is thankful it was over. The 66-year old actor has not let throat cancer treatment stop him from continuing to work. He is busy with shooting his next film, a biopic of entertainer Liberace. He will also promote “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” and “Solitary Man” in time for the Oscars in February.
