Microsoft May Not Have Informed Its Partners About The Surface Book

The vice president of Windows and devices of Microsoft, Terry Myerson, said in a recent interview with Business Insider that the company did not hide its aim of producing new Windows-powered devices, including its Surface Book laptop.

Myerson was attending an event hosted by Asus where a number of Windows 10 gaming laptops were announced on Friday. Myerson shared the stage with the PC partners of the company as a show of solidarity. However, Myerson admitted at a later time that the company did not inform its PC partners, including Asus, of its new laptop prior to its announcement last week.

A reporter from Recode, Ina Fried, stood close to Jonney Shih, chairman of Asus, during the event of the company. When the topic about the new laptop of Microsoft emerged, Shih said they will have a serious discussion about it.

It is essential for Microsoft to maintain a good relationship with its PC partners, like Asus and Dell, if it aims to meet its objective of bringing Windows 10 into one billion devices in a few years time. With the launch of the Surface Book, Microsoft has entered the laptop market of its PC partners. This makes it necessary for Microsoft to talk with its partners to ensure they are still on the same side. Myerson attended a number of PC launch events last week in an effort to smooth ruffled feathers.

Microsoft has maintained that its Surface line of devices is aimed at enhancing the development of the market for Windows 10. Myerson said the main competition of its new laptop offering is the MacBook Pro of Apple and not its PC partners.

This comes as the PC market continues to shrink. While analysts are expecting a short resurgence in the market in 2017, it is still expected to go down after this. Due to this, PC manufacturers like Dell, Asus and Lenovo will have to compete for a smaller market as smartphones are starting to become the primary computers of users.

In this situation, Microsoft is working on ensuring its laptops and tablet hybrids can perk up the market, which is gradually declining. However, offering their devices in the market may have an adverse effect on it PC partners. No other statements were issued by PC manufacturers about the Surface Book of Microsoft.
