Much Anticipated Blackphone Tablet May Be Launched AT MWC

The official launch of the secure Blackphone tablet is set to be held during the Mobile World Congress next month. The launch of the device follows the release of the security-focused Blackphone smartphone, which was the first offering of SGP Technologies.

A pre-release model of the secure tablet will be available at the Graphite Software booth during the event. A special interface was created by Graphite Software to allow it to use sensitive data.

A press conference is expected to be conducted by SGP during the event in Barcelona. A spokesman from the company begged off from giving details about the press conference or the device itself. But, an executive from Graphite Software revealed that the device will be launched during the Mobile World Congress and a model will be displayed in their booth as well as the booth of the manufacturer.

While the development of the Blackphone tablet was revealed last October, information about the device was sparse. It is expected to have similar features as the handset, which is capable of encrypting calls, text messages and other types of communication.

The company is reportedly working on the launch of its mobile app store, which will be dubbed as the Silent Store. It will offer secure applications to the users of the device and is anticipated to go live within the year. Even as tablet sales continue to grow, security lapses have also started to increase. Due to this, the Blackphone tablet may be an appealing option for Business users, according to Bob O’Donnell of Technalysis Research.

While they are bigger compared to phones, tablets can still be stolen. A number of features were developed by phone manufacturers in dealing the issue on mobile data security. Among the features created were a kill switch to disable the devices and security packages such as Knox of Samsung.

The release of low-cost devices has been the main driver in the growth of the tablet market. These devices may result to a reduction in the appeal of the Blackphone tablet due to its high price. However, it may still have a niche among users who are concerned about the security of their devices.

O’Donnell revealed that it has started to become necessary for users to pay for privacy and security, which is being offered by SGP. A number of notable security personalities are involved in the development of the device. These individuals include the developer of Pretty Good Privacy Phil Zimmerman, along with John Callas, the creator of the whole disk encryption system of Apple. The manufacturer of the Blackphone, SGP Technologies, is a joint venture of Geeksphone, a handset manufacturer, and Silent Circle, a security software company.
