New England Patriots Win Over The Washington Redskins

The score in the game between the New England Patriots and Washington Redskins was already very much in favor of the Patriots around ten minutes after the game started.

Before Washington was able to snap the ball for a second time, New England already scored twice courtesy of LeGarrette Blount and Julian Edelman. They went on to win the game, 27-10, to remain unbeaten. Even though the New England Patriots were held to a season low in points, the team was never threatened during the game. The team exploited an onside kick along with an interception as they opened a 14-0 lead over Washington.

Coach Jay Gruden of Washington said they felt they never had the ball throughout the entire first quarter. Gruden added that they were unable to get into a rhythm. Tom Brady was able to complete 26 of 29 passes for a total of 299 yards as well as a pair of touchdowns. One of the touchdown passes was an 8-yard pass to Edelman during the opening drive.

The Washington Redskins were limited to a single play as the pass of Kirk Cousins was intercepted by Logan Ryan after bouncing off Pierre Garcon. A 5-yard score by Blount gave New England a 14-0 lead. Coach Bill Belichick of New England said they had a good early drive and had the chance to get the lead and keep it.

The Redskins were limited to 15 yards in the first half with most of it coming off a 9-yard pass near the end of the quarter. The New England Patriots have tied an NFL record after they scored in 31 consecutive quarters. The only time they did not score in a quarter during the season was in the first quarter of the very first game of the team.

Cousins completed 22 of 40 passes for a total of 217 yards. However, the Washington Redskins quarterback had seven dropped passes. The Redskins were limited to a single field goal in the second quarter before Jordan Reed completed a 3-yard touchdown with around 25 seconds left on the clock. Cousins said their team was better than how they performed against New England. He added that the game was more of a fluke rather than a norm.

The score was better compared to the last visit of Washington to Foxborough in 2007 when the New England Patriots won 52-7. During this time, New England won all of its regular season games and two playoff games before they lost in the Super Bowl to the New York Giants.

Will Blackmon of Washington said limiting New England to 27 points was a little consolation. Blount carried twenty nine times for a total of 129 yards for the Patriots. The New England Patriots easily won the game despite the second interception of Brady for the season.

New England also lost its first home fumble since 2013. The team also lost Sebastian Vollmer along with Dion Lewis during the game. Edelman said it was bad and the team is hoping everything will be all right.

The loss of the Washington Redskins was around two weeks after its comeback win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 25. However, coach Jay Gruden was not able to make the necessary preparations against New England despite its bye week.

The New England Patriots played its most balanced offense for the season with a total of 39 passes and 37 rushing plays. Rob Gronkowski of New England said the run game of the team was “clicking.”

Following the first touchdown of New England, the team prepared for what appeared to be a regular kickoff. However, Stephen Gostkowski dribbled to the right after pulling back. The ball bounced off Ryan Grant of Washington before Johnathan Freeny recovered it.

After Edelmen fumbled, the Patriots started to move again. Ryan was able to deflect a pass at the 28 of Washington during the first play of the Redskins from scrimmage. The New England Patriots were able to take a 14-0 lead with just six plays and the 5-yard run of Blount.
