Nintendo 2DS Price To Be Reduced

The price of the Nintendo 2DS is set to be reduced to $100 on August 30, the company announced on Thursday. The current price of the mobile gaming device is at $130. Aside from the price reduction, Nintendo is also giving a free copy of Mario Kart 7, which is currently being offered by the company for the device.

The Nintendo 2DS was initially launched in October 2013 and was meant to be promoted to first-time gamers. The device features two screens and internet connectivity, which allow gamers to play over the net. Controversy has hounded the portable gaming device following its release into the market since it was generally considered as a supplementary part of the portable strategy of the company.

The main portable gaming device of the Japan-based gaming company is the 3DS, which features a clamshell design and allows gamers to enjoy 3D gaming without using special 3D glasses. The 3DS is the flagship portable device of Nintendo since most portable games are designed to work on it.

While the Nintendo 2DS does not have the clamshell design and 3D feature, it is capable of playing most of the games developed for the 3DS. It is also capable of supporting most of the games for the Nintendo DS, the first dual-screen portable gaming device of the company.

However, the reduction on the price of the 2DS is not expected to affect the status of the company in the mobile gaming market. Many people are using their smartphones and tablets when they want to play mobile games since these devices offer more features and a good number of games are offered for them. The 2DS along with the 3DS and the Sony PlayStation Vita have continued to use the traditional style of portable gaming where gamers purchase a dedicated device to allow them to play games.

However, Nintendo announced in March that it will start developing games designed for software used on mobile phones. This announcement is essentially an acknowledgement of the changes in the mobile gaming market. The move may be a considerable change in the policy of Nintendo, but the company revealed that it will continue to produce mobile gaming devices, such as the Nintendo 2DS.
