Obama’s Estonia Visit Indirectly Aimed At Putin

Barack Obama’s recent visit to Estonia’s capital city this Wednesday was an indirect message to Russia President Vladimir Putin that his Ukraine antics are not acceptable in NATO member states.

Obama’s stop in Estonia comes just ahead of the NATO summit that will be held in Wales. The visit was a recent addition to the United States President’s schedule, and it comes to reinforce the NATO message of security in Easter Europe. The Wales summit is expected to bring the repositioning of troops and equipment closer to Russian borders.

While not one of the official reasons for the summit, it is also expected to bring up the recent threat of militant Islamist group ISIS which is making important territorial gains in Iraq and Syria while shocking public opinion with the brutal execution of press members.

Other official topics will be the future of the mission in Afghanistan after the last of NATO troops will leave the region at the end of 2014.

According to some political analysts, the recent surge in world crises can bring a renewed purpose and agenda for NATO, the 65 year old alliance which has lately been viewed with uncertainty by its own member states.

While not the leader of a member country, Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko was also invited to the summit in order to best determine a solution for the crisis that is claiming lives in the eastern part of the country.
