Reeva Steenkamp Shot Through Bathroom Door

Prosecutors indicated that Oscar Pistorius killed Reeva Steenkamp by shooting his girlfriend through the bathroom door at his home. The details of the case of the prosecution against the Paralympian were revealed during the hearing for bail in Pretoria.

The athlete, who is a double amputee, reportedly wept when he heard the statements although his lawyers denied that the killing was murder.

The family of the victim held a private funeral at her hometown as the hearing was held. Prosecutors want the athlete to be charged with premeditated murder. Oscar Pistorius reported got up on the night that Reeva Steenkamp was killed, put on his prosthesis before walking seven meters and firing at the bathroom door with his gun, according to prosecutor Gerrie Nel.

The victim was reportedly hit three times although Pistorius supposedly shot four times. Nel added that the bathroom door was broken down by the athlete before he carried Reeva Steenkamp downstairs.

However, Barry Roux, Pistorius’ lawyer, indicated that the athlete had no knowledge on who was behind the bathroom door. No evidence was presented by the prosecution to show premeditated murder and the killing was not murder, Roux added.

The athlete was seen sobbing while his lawyer spoke at the hearing. Speculations emerged that Oscar Pistorius thought that Reeva Steenkamp was an intruder. However, police officials discarded this possibility.

Interest in the case has increased in South Africa and across the world. The athlete is considered a national hero in South Africa. Oscar Pistorius is a Paralympic champion who joined the Paralymic and Olympic Games that was held in London last year.

The family of the victim reportedly talked about their sorrow in an interview that was published recently. The mother of the victim revealed that they wanted some answers, answers to questions why the incident happened and why Reeva Steenkamp died in such a manner.
