Rickie Fowler Wins The Players Championship

Rickie Fowler used the result of an anonymous survey as his motivation to win the recent Players Championship. A survey conducted by Sports Illustrated revealed that he was voted as one of the most overrated player together with Ian Poultier. Although he did not show his annoyance in public, close friends said he was incensed by the poll.

Fowler played excellent golf that allowed him to get the biggest championship in his career. He had an eagle and four birdies in the last six holes. He also had two birdies in four holes during a playoff with Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner. He capped his Mother’s Day win with a five-footer at the fourth playoff hole amid chanting by the crowd.

He said the win was a big one for him. He added that it was necessary for him to win more tournaments in the future. He already has the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship and 2011 Korea Open under his belt. He also became a part of an elite group of players who were able to finish in the top five of four majors in a single year. The group includes Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.

Rickie Fowler said he wanted to change the opinion of other people that he was a guy who only has one win during the Tour. He was able to do it last year but he was not “the last man standing. “

The win will allow Rickie Fowler to move up to Number 8 in world rankings. He only needed seventeen strokes in the last six holes in regulation as he finished with a five-under-par 67. Garcia earned a spot in the playoff after making birdies in the 16 and 17 holes. Kisner also had birdies in the same holes to allow him to gain the playoff spot.

Kisner said he felt awesome while playing. He added that he was in a similar situation before, which made him rely on it too much near the end. He also said he was able to hit all the shots he wanted. However, he said Rickie was the better player during the tournament with two birdies on the 17th hole.

On the other hand, Rory McIlroy did not play his usual game as he finished in eighth place. He closed with a 70. He said he was happy with his game at the start.

But, McIlroy later said he was frustrated again. He finished in the top ten for the third straight year. He said the course was not easy to play since it did not allow anyone to go low. Despite having the feeling that he was ten shots behind the leader, he was able to finish just three shots behind.

On the other hand, Tiger Woods had a final round of 72 as he finished at three over. While he had a total of eighteen birdies throughout the entire tournament, he also committed numerous mistakes. It also showed that he needed to work on his new swing. He said he had a number of good shots, bad shots, and mediocre shots.

Rickie Fowler was playing well since his opening shot last Thursday. However, he was able to play his best on the seventeenth hole, which has an island green that normally scares a number of players. Fowler made five birdies on the 17th hole with three of them made on Sunday. He also made three birdies in regulation and two birdies in the playoff.

While Rickie Fowler felt he was already out of the tournament on the 12th, he was able to do something about it and came out on top. He said he waited for a very long time for this moment as he held on to the crystal trophy. He added that he felt great to be back in the winner’s circle. The tournament is considered as among the biggest in the majors. Rickie Fowler also said the win may sink in by Monday, but he was not sure if it will indeed sink in.
