Charles Schwab Corp Website Goes Down Due To Cyber Attack

The website of Charles Schwab Corp was shut down for around two hours recently due to a cyber attack. However, the company revealed that the data or account information of its clients was not affected.

The company revealed that high volume traffic to its website was believed to be connected to a possible denial-of-service attack. Aside from the website, mobile applications of the company brokerage company were also affected.

According to Greg Gable, a spokesman for Charles Schwab Corp, after analyzing the attack, the company was confident that the accounts or data of their clients were not affected.

Access to a website is blocked when it is under a series of denial-of-service attacks. The website became accessible within two hours after it was affected by the attack, Gable added.

The company, which is based in San Francisco, indicated through a tweet that technical problems were also experienced by the mobile applications of the company.

The website of the company went down as sharp declines were noted on Wall Street following a spurious tweet from the Associated Press that reported explosions near the White House. On the same day, the earnings of Apple Inc, was also released, making it among the most active trading season for the year.

Stocks were able to recover following a rally even as the website of Charles Schwab Corp went back online.
