Former Miss World Criticized For Baby Fats

The world's 'Most Beautiful Woman' is at the spotlight of growing controversies over fame, motherhood and baby fat.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, former Miss World and one of India's most beloved Bollywood stars, is getting slammed for not losing her post-pregnancy baby weight. "SHOCKING! Fat Aishwarya Rai!" and "Aishwarya's Baby Fat Woes!" are just two examples of the degrading headlines that have triggered international debates over India's perception of women and fame.

Bachchan, 1994 Miss World, has long been an icon of beauty and source of great pride of her country.  She has charmed the likes of David Letterman, Julia Roberts and Oprah.  She also has high profile cosmetic contracts with L'Oreal, among others.  What added to her fame was her high-profile wedding in 2007 to the Indian actor Abhishek Bachchan, son of the highly respected actor Amitabh Bachchan, which gained her a reputation as an undisputed national treasure. Until now.

In November 2011, she gave birth to her daughter Aaradhya.  Recently, she started stepping out in public again. Photos show a woman who has clearly gained weight, a normal picture of a new mother.  Nevertheless, criticisms on her body were harsh and carried undeniably insulting tones.

The worst one is what appears to have come with the release of a report by "Bollywood CIA" posted on Youtube. The video entitled "SHOCKING! Fat Aishwarya Rai!" shows before and after photos of the star set to the sound of an elephant trumpeting in the background.

These controversies lead to debates among her followers and non-followers as well to the question on India’s obsession with beauty and perception of women.
