Jamaican Prime Minister Resigns
Kingston, Jamaica — Bruce Golding, Jamaica’s Prime Minister, will resign as the country’s prime minister in the coming weeks. The resignation was announced Sunday by Jamaica’s governing party. The resignation is an attempt to avert a rebellion and mutiny from ruling party members that might cause his ouster instead.
Golding announced that he will step down once there is already a new leader for the country’s Labor Party. Jamaica Labor Party leader will automatically become the country’s newest prime minister. Golding has announced his decision to the central executive committee members during the quarterly meeting in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital.
Golding, 63 years old, Jamaica’s veteran legislator was anticipated to lead his party to the upcoming 2012 general elections in Jamaica. Golding said the last four years was very challenging and that the country now needs a new leader to continue transforming the country through economic reforms and programs centralized to the growth of the country.
Dennis Meadows, senator and Jamaica Labor Party member, said that there’s no question with regard to Golding’s competence as a leader. There has been an overwhelming and vast response for him to stay as the leader of the party. Meadows added that Golding’s have always thought the chances of the Labor Party to win the next elections might be at risk with his leadership. This might have triggered his decision to resign despite his skill and competence to lead the Labor Party.
