Mexican Drug Baron El Chapo Guzman May Have Been Killed

With no concrete data as of yet, rumors that have spread through the United States, Mexico and Guatemala say that drug lord El Chapo Guzman may have been assassinated in Guatemala.

Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman Rusty Payne said that there is no clear data and that talks of the kingpin’s demise are just rumors.

He also confirmed that the DEA wasn't involved in any way with the Guatemalan shoot-out that left at least two men dead.

Rumors started spreading on the 21st of February, when Guatemalan police authorities said that investigations were under way to determine if one of two bodies found dead after a shooting in Peten, a town bordering Mexico, belonged to El Chapo.

The Peten area is controlled by the Zetas, a rival organization to El Chapo’s Sinaloa cartel. While no official data is out, people living in the region said they heard gun shots and that a body looked like the leader of the world’s biggest drug cartel.

Analysts highly doubt the claims saying that little information is known about Guzman and that cartel leaders tend to have plastic surgery to modify their looks to better hide from rivals and government forces.

El Chapo Guzman escaped from prison in 2001 after being convicted on murder charges, and has proven one of the most ruthless and elusive criminals on record.
