Miami Dolphins Poised To Sign Ndamukong Suh

It appears that the Miami Dolphins are already on the final stages of its negotiations with Ndamukong Suh for a contract worth around $114 million. Reports indicated that the team will likely land Suh and the only thing that can stop the acquisition of the prized free agent will be a “breakdown in formal contract negotiations.”

Negotiations between Miami and Jimmy Sexton, the agent of Suh, started since the “legal tampering” period of the NFL began last Saturday. During this period teams have the opportunity to negotiate with upcoming free agents. NFL teams can begin to officially sign free agents by Tuesday.

Sources have indicated that Ndamukong Suh is guaranteed $60 million in the contract. This will make him the second-highest paid player in the league. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers is currently the highest paid player in the league. The defensive tackle is expected to receive the guaranteed $60 million during the first three years of the contract. He is also set to receive around $19 million each year until the end of the contract.

Reports had shown that the Miami Dolphins were among the frontrunners in landing Suh. Its contract offer is supposedly considerably higher compared to the offers made by other interested teams, including the Detroit Lions, the former team of Suh.

While the playing style of Suh allowed him to prosper in his career, it also resulted to a number of fines and sanctions. Ndamukong Suh has consistently ranked among the top players to receive penalties throughout his entire career. Last year, he received ten penalties, which tied him with the most number of penalties among all defensive tackles. The rough playing style of Suh also resulted to nearly half a million worth of fines throughout his career.

In 2012, Suh was meted a $30,000 fine after he kicked quarterback Matt Schaub of the Houston Texans in the groin. He was also fined $100,000 in 2013 after an illegal block on John Sullivan of the Minnesota Vikings. The fine set a record in the NFL. He also recorded an NFL-high of five personal fouls during his season as a rookie. Despite these penalties and fines, he only missed two games in his career after he was suspended in 2011.

He was the anchor of the best run defense in the league last season. Ndamukong Suh was initially suspended for the wild card game of the Detroit Lions against the Dallas Cowboys last year after he stepped on Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers. However, the suspension due to unnecessary roughness was overturned and he was given a $70,000 fine instead.

He was selected for the NFL Pro Bowl four times during his five-season stint with Detroit and compiled 239 combined tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 36 sacks. Ndamukong Suh also had 44 solo sacks and a total of 53 combined sacks last year.
