Nokia Ozo VR Camera To Be Used In Behind-The-Scenes Disney Vids

Disney announced recently that it will use the Nokia Ozo virtual reality camera to give audiences behind the scenes footage of upcoming movies. A deal announced by the owner of the Star Wars franchise showed that the company will be using the 360-degree Nokia camera, which was designed mainly for making VR movies. The camera has a price tag of around $60,000.

The camera is capable of putting together a spherical 3D video that allows viewers to see in different directions using its eight lenses. When a VR headset is used, viewers will have the feeling of being at the location of the movie. Using the device allows viewers to feel like they are at the set of an Indiana Jones, Star Wars or Marvel movie, all of which are owned by Disney.

But, it remains to be seen if the Nokia Ozo will be used by Disney for these franchises when they shoot the movies. The agreement only indicated that special VR content will be created by Disney for a number of Disney movies. One of the first videos Disney used the Ozo on was the red carpet scene on The Jungle Book of Disney.

However, Ramzi Haidamus, president of Nokia Technologies said the camera will not be limited to minor roles in Disney movies. He said the camera is currently undergoing tests conducted by Disney to produce different types of content. The content include original work, which means movie goers should expect behind-the-scenes videos of a major blockbuster movie created through the virtual reality camera of Nokia.

Aside from Disney, Nokia already has an explanatory partnership with another movie outfit, 20th Century Fox. But, Haidamus said its agreement with Disney makes it the first movie company to commit to the creation of content using the Nokia Ozo camera and making it available in the market.
