Rory McIlroy Makes History After Winning The 2014 PGA Championship

The first nine holes of Rory McIlroy did not give any indications that he will win the 2014 PGA Championship. He had a 1-over-36 in the front nine and was the only golfer in the top 30 not to be under par in the first nine holes.

However, he staged a comeback on the remaining nine holes as he made a birdie on the seventh tee. He beat Phil Mickelson by a single stroke as he scored 32 in the remaining nine holes of the game. The victory of McIlroy was historic.

The golfer revealed the win was incredible. He added that he did not expect this type of summer in his wildest dream. McIlroy and his playing partner Bernd Wiesberger finished just behind Mickelson and Rickie Fowler.

Although Rory McIlroy did expect to win, he wanted to win the championship. He took the lead after Mickelson hit a bogey on the 16th hole. The top-ranked golfer increased his lead to two when he hit a ten-foot birdie on the 17th hole. He almost sent the ball into the water in the 18th hole as Fowler and Mickelson allowed him to play through them.

McIlroy made a par on that hole as Fowler and Mickelson looked. The last two hours of the game was filled with birdies and eagles along with some tension.

He finished the game with a 68 as he led Mickelson by one stroke. A fist pump at JP Alexander punctuated the victory of McIlroy at Valhalla. The win was the fourth major in the career of McIlroy.

He became a part of an elite club of golfers in the modern era who won four major championships before reaching the age of 26. Aside from Rory McIlroy, the other members of the club are Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.
