“Happy Feet Two” Sells Poorly, Hundreds of Employees Laid Off

Six hundred of its 700 employees behind the animated movie, “Happy Feet Two” have been retrenched as a result of the poor box-office performance.

Dr. D Studio’s employees have been informed of the sudden lay off, according to IF.com.au. “Happy Feet Two” is a sequel to 2006’s Academy Award-winning, “Happy Feet” which earned millions of dollars. However, “Happy Feet Two” had earned only an estimated $30.3 million worldwide.

“Happy Feet Two” was launched on November 18 and has not been successful as expected. It’s been opened and available to 3,606 theaters worldwide, but earnings were way to low from its budget of $140 million.

According to Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. President of Distribution, they came a little bit under their expectations on the animated film. With the 3 new films to be released this week namely, “The Muppets,” “Hugo” and “Arthur Christmas”, “Happy Feet Two” might not gain further traction.

Meanwhile, according to latest rumors, Dr. D Studios is hoping to compete with Peter Jackson's Weta Digital in neighboring New Zealand. Likewise, Dr. D Studios is also attached to the long-delayed fourth "Mad Max" film, "Fury Road".

Currently, there are no job openings on their site.
