“Olympic City” London Under heavy Scrutiny
London - It is the worst violence that hit the city of London for the past 25 years. London, the same city that will host the 2012 summer edition of the Olympic Games, is under a big debacle. Instead of a vibrant city eager to host the Olympic Games, violence and riots welcomed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officials during their London visit. Plumes of dark smoke can be seen from numerous spots of the city. Several business establishments were closed and some were robbed and destroyed during the widespread city riots. The authorities were still unable to control the situation.
The current fiasco reminded the public of the worst unrest the country suffered and struggled during the 1980s. The current unrest took place just two weeks after London started its one year countdown for the opening of the Olympic Games next year on July 27, 2012. London’s image has been tainted due to the untimely event that struck the city as of the moment.
The violence has already reached Hackney, one of the districts comprising the whole Olympic Park, Monday only four miles away. The Olympic Games Main Stadium and other key venues are situated inside the park.
David Cameron, British Prime Minister, and Boris Johnson, the London City Mayor, were forced to end their vacations after the alarming widespread violence in the city has gone worse. The organizing committee of the 2012 London Games is very confident that the incident will be resolved sooner. Members of the committee assured the public that the incident is just a minor level of criminality as shown from all evidence so far. They assured the public that everything is under way and the 2012 Games will be safe and secured.
