15 Chinese Students Die in school bus crash

Government officials of China grieved after 15 elementary students died and 8 severely injured in a school bus accident on Monday. This incident is the latest in a series of crashes that involved children.

As confirmed by authorities, the school bus was taking the 29 children to their homes accidentally slammed into a ditch in Feng Country, Jiangsu province and overturned. The school bus was trying to avoid a pedicab but unfortunately it crashed into a ditch filled with 60 meters of water. Further, according to authorities, some students drowned and were suffocated as water entered the school bus.

The driver suffered minimal injuries and is now being detained by police. Students who were injured of the incident were immediately brought to the nearest hospital for medical aid.

Just last month, a nine-seat school bus with 64 passengers collided with a truck in Gansu wherein 19 children died. Due to these successive tragic incidents, it caused widespread anger all over China about the safety and security of school buses. The State Council in Beijing just recently has published safety standards for school buses, including safety checks for every 6 months.
