3 Most Unusual Festivals In The World

While everyone has heard of the tomato debauchery hosted by Spain’s Bunol Festival or the 13th century dated Venice Carnival, some other festivals out there are just as wacky, unusual and fun. So whether it is a historically themed event or a harvest celebration here are some less known about but still unusual events from across the globe:

Holi Festival – India

Also known as the Festival of Colors, Holi Festival brings together people in celebration of spring. For 16 days Sikhs and Hindus throw water and colored powders at each other in a joyous religious celebration. In recent years the festival has spread in parts of Europe and North America.

Sandfest – Port Arnsas, Texas

Another spring celebration, this time not through colorfoul powders but through sand. Sculptors, both amateurs and professionals, gather in Port Aransas in Texas to celebrate spring by creating the most unique, imaginative and unusual sand sculptures in the world. The fun is accompanied by live concerts and several other cultural events.

Burning Man – Black Rock Desert, Nevada

An artistic festival that celebrates the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, the Burning Man festival has everything from design, music to all forms of self expression in a weeklong celebration. It gets its name from the ritual burning of a wooden effigy on the last Saturday in August.
