56 killed in Series of Iraq Bombings

Kut, Iraq — 56 people died in a series of bomb blasts in over a dozen cities across the country of Iraq Monday morning. Most of the bomb blasts occurred in the city of Kut, located in the southern part of Iraq. Because of the series of bombing, the whole month of Holy Ramadan celebration did not become relatively peaceful.

The bombings badly hit the city of Kirkuk, located in the north, Baghdad, the capital city, Najaf, Karbala, and Kut, all three cities located in the south. The recent violence has emphasized the ability of the rebels to challenge the Iraqi Government anytime without the assistance of the American troops. The bomb blasts included parked car explosions, roadside attacks, and a suicide bombing that hit a police station. The scope of the recent explosions, seven different towns just in the province of Diyala, showed how dangerous the insurgents can be despite the coordinated crackdowns of the Iraqi Government and the American troops.

The worst of all explosions happened in the city of Kut, a southern city located 160 kilometers (100 mile) southeast of the capital Baghdad. A deadly double explosions hit a market where construction workers flocked, killing 35 people and injuring 64. In the city of Baquba, the capital of the Diyala province, seven bombs exploded killing five soldiers and another five civilians. 11 other people were killed across numerous bombings in several cities and towns in Iraq.
