Maria Sharapova advances to fourth round at Wimbledon 2011
Maria Sharapova of Russia had a bit of a rough game but was in control for much of his third round match against Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic. The Russian former world number one defeated the Czech in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 on Saturday on Court 2 at Wimbledon.
Battling windy conditions, Maria Sharapova won the first set but had an uncharacteristic 21 unforced errors and fell behind 3-1 in the second set. But the 2004 Wimbledon champion quickly recovered and won five straight games to win the set and the match.
Maria Sharapova's next opponent in the fourth round of Wimbledon 2011 is 20th-seeded Peng Shuai of China who won over Hungary's Melinda Czink, 6-2, 7-6 (5).
In the men's draw, Rafael Nadal of Spain beat Gilles Muller of Luxembourg 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 6-0. The match was suspended due to rain on Friday but the Spaniard quickly dispatched his opponent when play resumed. Nadal thus kept his spotless play onwards his quest for a third Wimbledon title.
Next up for Nadal in Wimbledon 2011 is the winner of the match between Juan Martin del Potro and Gilles Simon.
Maria Sharapova meanwhile wants to add a second title at the All England Club after winning seven years ago when she was just 17 years old. But the ensuing years has not been kind to the Russian as she has not managed to get past the semifinals here since 2006.
But if Maria Sharapova improves her form in the next matches, the Wimbledon 2011 title will be there for the taking.
