2020 Summer Olympic Games Bidding Heats up

Qatar has showed interest in possibly hosting the 2020 Summer Edition of the Olympic Games. The emirate is bound to host the 2022 Football World Cup which is two years after the 2020 Olympic Games.

Doha, the capital of Qatar, has successfully hosted one of the most memorable Asian Games in 2006. Doha could possibly fight the right with another Asian city, Tokyo. The Japanese city is also expected to formally submit its official bid anytime soon. Tokyo, the site of the 1964 Summer Olympic Games, lost its last bid to host the 2016 Summer Edition to Brazilian City of Rio de Janeiro.

Tokyo and Doha are expected to officially pass their respective bids in the coming days. The deadline for the bid submission will be on September 1. The winner will be selected on September 7, 2013 in the city of Buenos Aires in Argentina. So far, only the city of Rome has officially submitted its bid to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The Spanish Capital, Madrid, has also expressed its interest in bidding for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. The city lost the 2012 and 2016 bids but positively believes that the city might get it for the third time. Madrid has the support and backing of most institutions and the sporting world to secure the rights of hosting the 2020 Games. Madrid officials believe that a European city might win the bid this time after an Asian City, Pyeongchang in South Korea, won the bid for the 2018 Winter Games.
