US Salmonella outbreak Tested as Antibiotic-resistant

A new strain of salmonella has been discovered to have infected 36 million lbs. of ground turkey meat in a plant in Arkansas. Health officials warned Thursday the American public about the said new Salmonella Heidelberg Bacteria strain. The newest strain proves to be more resistant to the usual antibiotics used to cure the common salmonella strain.

22 people were reported hospitalized out of the total 78 people feared to have been infected by the newest strain of salmonella. A salmonella outbreak has already been announced by the federal health bureau in the United States. 26 states have already been infected by the outbreak. The outbreak started form Cargill Meat Plant in Springdale, in the state of Arkansas. The company immediately pulled out all the 36 million lbs. of ground turkey meat across a number of states. The weight is equivalent to 36 fully-loaded humongous Boeing 747 commercial aircrafts. The suspected contaminated 36 million lbs. turkey meats were processed between the months of February to August this year.

Other meat processing plants across Springdale are not contaminated by the newest strain of salmonella. Other meat processing plants of Cargill are also safe from the contamination after they have gone through inspections. US Department of Agriculture released a public awareness campaign to prevent salmonella by proper sanitation and food preparation.
