Casey Anthony to serve a year of Probation
Orlando, Florida — Casey Anthony, the woman who was accused of killing her 2 year old daughter but later on acquitted by the court in Florida, was ordered by Belvin Perry Jr., the Chief Judge of the Orange Country, to serve at least a year of supervised probation for a conviction on a check-fraud. The chief judge ordered Anthony to report on August 26 at the Orlando Dept. of Corrections facility. Perry ruled that Anthony’s address should be kept confidential to protect and safeguard her.
Anthony was put under so much media coverage in a court trial considered as one of the most sought after criminal case in the United States in recent years. Many Americans disliked and hated her despite Anthony’s eventual acquittal of all criminal charges she was accused of and indeed there is a high probability that people might physically harm her.
The probation includes an order for her not to leave the country of her residence, Orange County, without the approval of her probation officer. Anthony was cleared a month ago of all the murder charges of killing her daughter, Caylee. She was also acquitted on 4 other lesser charges by the same jury in Florida. The probation was linked to the fraud check charges she admitted to perpetrate after stealing the checkbook of Amy Huizenga, a friend of hers.
The defense team immediately filed a motion that Anthony cannot serve probation twice since it will violate the clause on double jeopardy. In response to the motion filed, the judge said that the probation won’t violate the clause on double jeopardy likely because the check-fraud case Anthony was acquitted before and the case now are different and distinct.
