Somali refugees Get Food Assistance for Eid al-Fitr

Dolo, Somalia —Hundreds of thousands Somali refugees celebrated Tuesday the food aid they receive. The food aid came right in time where some of the Somali refugees, celebrated Eid al-Fitr in the refugee camp and give thanks to Allah for the food and safety.

Due to raging war and famine in Somali, hundreds of thousands were forced to leave their homes and livelihood. Many Somali refugees seek shelter in an Ethiopia-Somali border refugee camp run by the United Nations. In some days before reaching the refugee camp, a Somali mother confessed that without choice, she with her children have to eat leaves from the trees instead of starving to death. During the night, she would be agonized to find ways to light a fire just to protect her children from wild animals but at the same time worried that it might as well bring harm by attracting rebels and criminals.

Quresho Mohmoud Dahir, the Somali mother, was very thankful to Allah for all the blessings they received and all her children are safe together with her in the refugee camp. Aside from food, Somali refugees solely depend on the international community everything from sleeping mats to cooking pots. The Italian Government through the help of the United Nations provided malaria medicine and vaccination aside from food assistance.  A local Somali charity set up a blackboard beneath a tree that serves as a temporary school for young Somali refugees.
