Facebook Faces Another Lewd Photo Scandal

Facebook Scandal. A father from Northern Ireland has filed a lawsuit against social networking site Facebook, after his 12 year old daughter, a minor, was able to upload lewd and vulgar photos of herself, reported by the BBC. The lawsuit questions how Facebook could allow users under the age of 13 from becoming an official member of the site and how it has failed big time in verifying the age of its members.

Hilary Carmichael, the complainant’s lawyer, said that Facebook is not suitable for users under 18 years old but why is it that Facebook cannot even uphold its policy and rules of keeping under 13 years old out of the site. They could have implemented other measures to verify the age such as asking the passport number.

The photos uploaded in the site show provocative poses, sexually explicit and lewd images that made the girl look older than her actual age of 12, the lawyer added. The 12 year old girl was also able to post other personal information such as her home address and the school she currently attends.

The lawsuit was filed in a high court in Belfast Monday claiming Facebook was indeed guilty of negligence. They are hoping Facebook would immediately delete the girl’s account. However, if Facebook declines the plea, they will file another lawsuit banning Facebook in Northern Ireland.
