Africa Becomes the “Worst Place for Sick Children”
A study showed that children living in countries with only a few health workers are 5 times more likely to die compared to other children from developed countries. A study from Save the Children revealed Tuesday the result of a study. Most children especially from Africa are more likely to die due to illnesses just because there is a shortage in health workers.
As reported by an NGO based in UK, African country of Chad is the worst place in the world for a child to get sick and be treated. On the other hand, Switzerland tops all other countries in the world as the country with the best health care facility and with enough health workers to treat a sick child.
13 out of the 20 worst countries for a child to get sick are African countries. Somalia, a war-wrecked and famine infested country, ranks 2nd worst. Asian countries such as Nepal, Laos, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are also included in the bottom of the rankings. On the other hand, European countries such Ireland, Finland, Denmark and Belarus are on top of the ranking list.
There is a 3.5 million global shortage of medical doctors, nurses, community health workers and midwives, according to an NGO. A mother would not wish to see her child helplessly suffering and eventually dying just because there is no enough medical help in the country they live. Currently, the survival of a child depends on the country where he/she is born. That is indeed very ridiculous and very unfair, the director of an African NGO uttered.
