Ocean Warming alarms Scientists
Ocean Warming. Brussels — An alarming report has been released Tuesday about the possible health threat brought about by the warming of the world’s oceans. It has been discovered that serious illness may spread if the continuous warming of oceans won’t stop causing a proliferation of a kind of bacteria known as Vibrio genus which can cause serious gastroenteritis, septicemia, food poisoning and cholera.
The report was backed up by a 200 page synthesis paper based from more than a hundred EU Projects since 1998. The report was released through the collaboration and joint effort of 17 major marine institutes in Europe which was known as Project CLAMER.
This will be alarming because the yearly cost in health care will also need to be increased due to higher risks of getting marine diseases from contaminated seafood consumption, recreational or direct occupational exposure to the ocean, or through ingestion of waterborne and marine pathogens. Ocean warming and changes in the climate play a vital role in the transmission of these known waterborne diseases.
The paper also has indicated other significant effects of the rising temperature in the world’s oceans including coastal erosion, melting ice caps, rising sea levels, increased storm frequency and intensity and including chemical changes in the oceans such as deoxygenation and acidification. Katja Philippart, a Dutch marine scientist, said that what strikes them (marine scientists) is that there is already a series of evidence that these things are already occurring in our oceans and we are just unaware of them.
