Father Sues Starbucks’ Hidden Restroom Cam
Washington - A father has sued Starbucks Coffee Co after his daughter, 5 years old, saw a video camera at a restroom in one of Starbucks’ branches. The video camera seen by his daughter has been purposely placed pointing at the toilet inside the restroom.
William Yocker from Viriginia wants Starbucks to pay $1 million in a legal suit on 4 counts which includes privacy breach according to Yocker’s legal counsel Tuesday. Hank Schlosberg, Yocker’s lawyer, told the press that the lawsuit has already been filed.
The father together with his daughter went into a Starbucks branch in downtown Washington to use the bathroom after a sightseeing trip in the month of April. There is only one bathroom for both men and women in the branch. After using the toilet, the daughter was dismayed when she found out a digital video cam was hidden inside the drain pipe below the sink. The video camera was placed purposely aiming at the toilet and was recording. The little girl was very disappointed while her father busted out in anger. The father contacted the manager and the police.
It will be the 3rd incident involving a hidden video camera inside a Starbucks restroom within this year. In May, a man was put in jail after placing a cam in a California branch and recorded 40 women in the toilet. In June, another man was arrested in a Florida branch for the same incident and purpose. Alan Hilowitz, Starbucks spokesperson, said that it is the company’s obligation is to provide safe environment not just for their employees but most importantly for their customer.
