Truck Accidents Claim lives

According to the California Highway Patrol a 42-year old semi-truck driver has succumbed to fatal injuries suffered Thursday during an accident on Highway 99. The driver was pronounced dead at the Lodi Memorial Hospital. The name of the driver has not been released.

23-year-old Chante Griffin of Stockton, the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision, suffered only minor injuries.

Drugs and alcohol were not suspected as a cause for the crash, according to authorities.

A second trucking related fatality this week involved a 66-year old California woman.

Shortly before noon Friday, the California Highway Patrol reported that a Grass Valley woman lost her life after she collided with a truck on Highway 49. CHP Officer Dina Hernandez said that an approximately 26,000-pound truck slammed into the driver's side of the woman's vehicle. 66-year-old Judith Booth died at the scene of the accident.

According to the National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA), more than 8,000 truck accidents occur in California each year and nearly ¾ of fatalities occur to people in other vehicles.
