Sesame Street Gang Launches Anti-bullying Campaign
Sesame Street has launched as anti-bullying campaign in a special episode that will be aired Monday. The episode aims to teach young children especially the preschoolers how to identify and prevent bullying from happening. The episode will feature Big Bird’s problem of joining The Good Birds Club. A bully will make fun of him and won’t let him join the club. Due to his desperation, Big Bird asked Fairy Abby to change some of his features but still he does not pass muster.
Trudy Ludwig, a children’s book author, said her 7 year old daughter was a victim of bullying in school. Bullying may not be that prevalent than we thought it should be but the harm it can cause may be severe to young children, she added. That’s why it is very important for kids to be understood and that their behaviors must be properly monitored through the guidance of their parents.
The special episode will emphasize the importance of having an adult that will correct any forms of bullying from getting worse. Bullying will be tattling if it is done for the purpose of hurting the other person, Ludwig emphasized. Rosemarie Truglio, Sesame Workshop’s VP for Education, said that bullying must be reported to stop children from experiencing hurtful experience at a very tender age.
