Caribbean Football officials sanctioned by FIFA

FIFA, the World’s highest governing body of football, has announced Friday its final decision of sanctioning several football officials from the Caribbean region due to an issue relating to integrity while banning for life Mohamed bin Hamman. An incident was reported to FIFA from a reliable source that Mohammed bin Hamman, a candidate for the FIFA’s presidential seat, had called a meeting with several football officials from the Caribbean. Hamman, former head of the Asian Confederation, had offered cash to several Caribbean officials to buy their support and sympathy in order to boost his presidential bid. FIFA’s final decision: Hamman to be banned for life.

Earlier this month, Hamman has withdrew from the presidential race but hoped for a reinstatement via an appeal he made. He however, lost the opening legal battle. Hamman’s disqualification in the presidential race has left his only opponent, Sepp Blatter, for the June 1, 2012 election. Hamman’s effort to gain the sympathy of the Carribean officials was a preparation for the May 10-11, 2012 Caribbean Football Union Meet.

Caribbean football officials given sanction by FIFA includes British Virgin Islands’ Franka Pickering and Audrey Liburd, Horace Burrell of Jamaica, Osiris Guzman of the Dominican Republic, Ian Hypolite from St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Hillaren Frederick from the U.S. Virgin Islands. Few other officials were cleared while some are still under review by FIFA.
