WHO strengthens Global Health Equity Campaign
The WHO or the World Health Organization has recommended the need to strengthen the research on health equity focused on health social determinants as based on an extensive review on global evidence. In order to do this recommendation from the WHO, there is a need for a paradigm shift that will explicitly address social, economic and political processes that influences and determines the population health. Currently, the shift has already been under way and will complement new and existing studies and research in public health, medicine and life sciences.
Future research and studies related on health equity will need further synthesis and consultations from all stakeholders. The following are 4 distinct factors but interrelated that needs to be considered: 1. Global processes and factors that affect health equity, 2. Processes and structures that affect an individual’s chances to become healthy within a particular society, 3. Factors in the health system that also affects health equity, and 4. Interventions and policies implemented to minimize health inequity. The implementation of health equity needs a joint effort from all stakeholders. National and regional research and studies priorities should also be based on health equity as urged by the WHO.
