Legendary Rapper Heavy D Laid to Rest, Obamas Extend Condolences

Tears shed as friends and families gathered last Friday, November 19 for Heavy D’s funeral Grace Baptist Church which was lively streamed on the web.

A letter of encouragement was received by the family of the late rapper from President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama. The letter expressed their heartfelt condolences to the grieving family of Heavy D and their appreciation to the contributions of the late rapper to the world of music.

According to Heavy D’s family, the late rapper died last week in Los Angeles at age 44. The cause of death was due to complications from pneumonia. Heavy D’s 11 year old daughter named Xea Myers told the guests that her father still lives, not in flesh but in spirit.

Other guests were Usher, Don King, Queen Latifa, Rosie Perez and John Legend.  According to Usher, Heavy D has been influential in their careers. Johnny Gill who also attended the funeral was emotional when he approached the altar and congratulated Heavy D for a job well done. Nieces of Heavy D likewise in teary-eyed sang the song “His Eye Is on the Sparrow.”

According to the friends of the late rapper, Heavy D stood out from the rest and his lightheartedness and positive vibe are one of the reasons that endears him to many.
