After an 18-day stakeout, Libyans celebrated last Saturday, Nov. 19 for the capture of Moammar Gadhafi’s son, Saif al-Islam.

Saif al-Islam was believed to be making his way to neighboring Niger, according to Senior Libyan military officials. Saif al-Islam was caught between the towns of Obari and Sabha and thereafter the last Gadhafi fugitive was taken to the city of Zintan, as reported by Tripoli military commanders.

Acting Prime Minister Abdurrahum El-Keib stated in his interview that Libya is hopefully beginning a state of freedom, lawfulness and transparency. Likewise the Prime Minister stated that Saif and his company will have a fair trial or due process.

Saif al-Islam has committed crimes against humanity, including murder. Officials in Libya emphasized that they would like to put the Gadhafi successor on trial. The ICC considers Saif al-Islam as the unspoken successor and most influential person. During the Gadhafi regime, state policy includes lethal force, imprisoning hundreds, attacking civilians and many inhumane treatments.

Chief Prosecutor of ICC was grateful of Saif al-Islam’s capture because together with his father, Moammar they were the principals at fault of all crimes committed in Libya. His arrest will allow him to pay for all his crimes.
