Singer Fantasia Discharged from Hospital
“American Idol” winner and singer Fantasia Barrino left the hospital Wednesday after being admitted due to an overdose of “aspirin and a sleep aid,” her manager Brian Dickens said.
In a prepared statement, Dickens added, “She has been lifted up by the outpouring of love and support from her fans.”
The overdose happened on the day Barrino received a court complaint from a woman, Paula Cook, alleging her that the singer had an affair with her husband Antwaun Cook that lasted for a year.
The 911 call on Monday evening made by Dickens was released Wednesday by the police.
“An individual took a bottle of aspirin, and she’s slowly losing consciousness,” the caller said.
Part of the statement was an acknowledgement and apology by Barrino. “Fantasia fell in love with Mr. Cook and believed that he loved her.”
“Fantasia is heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused,” the statement went on to say.
Dickens said that Fantasia’s relationship with Mr. Cook was based on lies.
“Fantasia belived Mr. Cook when he told her he was not happy in his marriage and his heart was not in it.” Cook also told Barrino that he had been separated since the summer of 2009 and even took the singer to a house to prove that he was living separately from his wife.
Barrino and Cook were often seen and photographed together in recent months fueling speculation about the nature of their relationship.
She won the third season of “American Idol” and has gone for six-years of both success and adversity, including financial troubles and a suit by her own father against her.
