Chinese Government Intensifies Campaign Against Child Trafficking Syndicates

China’s Ministry of Public Security announced that police officials have busted two child-trafficking rings after a nationwide investigation of 6 months, rescuing 178 children and captivating 608 suspects.

The ministry has considered it to be the biggest achievement of police forces against human trafficking. In May, police authorities headed by Cai Lianchao unexpectedly discovered a network of child-traffickers through a traffic accident. Also in August, authorities unveiled another human trafficking ring led by Chen Xiumei.

After sufficient evidence, 5000 police officers conducted a nationwide investigation for 6 months and thereafter successfully arrested the suspects last week. Rescued children were placed in local orphanages while exerting efforts to reunite them with their true families. Female officers were likewise ordered to take care of sick children.

Further, according to the Ministry of Public Security, almost 50,000 suspects were arrested by police officers since the government launched a national campaign since April 2009 and rescued 18,000 children and 35,000 women.

Ever since, human trafficking has been a major problem in country of China and most victims are children and women. Just last week, Premier Wen Jiabao announced that the government will continue to arrest criminals and provide protection to women and children.
