Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewelries Worth $115 million

At a Christie’s auction on Tuesday, jewelry collections of the late Hollywood screen goddess Elizabeth Taylor has reached a record-setting of up to $115 million which includes more than $11.8 million for a pearl necklace and more than $8.8 million for a diamond ring given to her by Richard Burton.

Elizabeth Taylor has starred in numerous classic films such as "Giant," ''Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." The screen goddess died in Los Angeles in March at age 79. Known as a jewelry lover, Taylor had various pieces in her collection from the world’s famous names in the jewelry world namely, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Chopard.

“La Peregrina,” a pearl diamond and ruby necklace has reached the world record price of $11,842,500. Richard Burton bought the necklace at an auction in 1969 for Elizabeth Taylor for $37,000. While the 33.19-carat diamond ring was sold for $8,818,500 to a private buyer from Asia, according to a Christie's spokesman.

Further, Taylor’s art, memorabilia and clothing will be sold later this week. Part of the proceeds from the auction will benefit “The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation” which Taylor has established in 1991 to help people living with AIDS.
