Chicago Bear Sam Hurd Arrested for Cocaine and Marijuana Distribution

According to Chicago Sun-Times, Sam Hurd, of the Chicago Bears was arrested on Wednesday by undercover Homeland Security agents for attempting to set up regular purchases of marijuana and cocaine to expand a drug distribution system.

Chicago Bears football team stated that they are already aware of Sam’s arrest and are currently continuing to gather more details. Further, the Bears expressed their disappointment of the situation.

Sam Hurd, also a former Dallas Cowboys receiver signed a three-year, $5.1 million deal on July 29, 2011. So far, Sam Hurd has only eight catches this season and has been caught once. Also according to police reports, Sam Hurd met with an undercover Homeland Security agent to transact purchase of 5-10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week. The plan is he would thereafter distribute the drugs in the area of Chicago.  Sam Hurd also added that he was already handling 4 kilos of cocaine per week in Chicago.

Officials believe that Sam Hurd already committed 21 violations of federal statute from July of this year through last night's apprehension. Criminal complaint was filed in Texas and Hurd may be imprisoned for 40 years and required a $2 million fine if convicted of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute more than 500 grams, or half a kilogram, of cocaine.
