Tiger Woods returns to golf after divorce

Golf star Tiger Woods returns to competition and looks to regain his stature in the PGA Tour this week at the Barclay's tournament, his first after being divorced with his wife after six years of marriage.

Woods has recently signed his divorce papers with former wife Elin Nordegren, and he now sets his focus to improve his faltering golf game.

He has played badly and not won a tournament since returning to golf four months ago at The Masters, following a sex scandal involving a number of women.

Woods is trying to improve and advance towards the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs and a chance to earn a berth in the American Ryder Cup team.

There are some who say that his inclusion at the Ryder Cup would just be a distraction.

“Turning up at Celtic Manor could be one of the hardest things Tiger ever does,” said Colin Montgomery, European Ryder Cup team captain, in a newspaper article a few months ago.

“He will worry about how the wives of the other players will react to him. Some of them will be friends with Elin and they will sympathize with her anger and pain. Some of them might find it hard to welcome Tiger back into the group,” Montgomery wrote.

Woods delivered the worst performance of his storied career earlier this month at the Bridgestone Invitational, where he finished second last in a tie for 78. He had won the tournament seven times, but he went 18 over par and finished 30 shots behind eventual winner Hunter Mahan.
