Legendary Singer Whitney Houston Found Dead, Drug Overdose Possible Cause

Celebrated singer and performer Whitney Houston, whose voice soared high and brought her to the peak heights of the pop music industry, but whose personal decline related primarily to drug issues, died on Saturday afternoon.  She was 48.

Based on CNN report, Houston was declared dead at 3:55 p.m. at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the venue for the pre-Grammy party.  She died on the eve of the Grammy Awards, the music industry's most prestigious event, which makes the tragic news even more shocking.

Houston's fame, which lasted for almost a lifetime, was unquestionable.  When the industry released Houston’s debut single entitled "You Give Good Love" in February of 1985, she made known to the public her powerful voice that could hit challenging high notes, yet soothingly angelic and captivating at the same time.

Aside from her distinct singing prowess, Houston also invaded the world of modeling and became a successful model who appeared in "Cosmopolitan" and "Glamour" magazines.

Whitney’s mother was the gospel singer Cissy Houston and her cousin was the 1960s pop singer Dionne Warwick which could probably explain the exceptional talent she possessed.

Her career as a singer and stage performer was impenetrable accompanied with the release of her albums which topped the musical charts and were proclaimed diamond.  Among these are her 1987's "Whitney," 1990's "I'm Your Baby Tonight," and 1992's "The Bodyguard" soundtrack.

Houston's fans were greatly concerned; however, when she got married to Bobby Brown in 1992, probably because Bobby Brown was considered an R&B bad boy. The two confessed that they were happy in their marriage life, though.

Later in her life, however, Houston had been battling with her “personal decline” allegedly related to drug usage which resulted to intense public scrutiny. Many people have been guilty of making insensitive jokes about the demise of the impenetrable Whitney Houston, her thin frame, her being delusional, her unfortunate loss of her priceless voice, and her constant battle with drugs.

Though the cause of her death has not yet been publicly revealed, anybody can only speculate whether it was drug-related; and anyone who once recognized the contributions of Whitney Houston in the musical industry will definitely be distressed of her death.
