“Safe House,” which stars veteran actor Denzel Washington, secured the title box office hit when it successfully beat “The Vow” over the weekend.

The movie earned $28.4 million from Friday through Monday, which lifted the film to No. 1 spot from its second-place standing when it opened last week, leaving “The Vow” with $26.6 million.

“Safe House” stars Denzel Washington who portrays as a fugitive on the loose and is being pursued by the CIA agent portrayed by Ryan Reynolds. The theme of the movie could be classified as something familiar, but probably because of the lead star roles, it has attracted a lot of moviegoers.

Polls at the end of its first weekend viewing revealed that the audience was mostly those who are in the middle age category. In its second weekend, however, polls show that the audiences have been expanded to include younger viewers.

In the second place is the movie "The Vow" which stars Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum.  A love story of a couple wherein the husband struggles to win back his wife's heart after she loses her memory in a car accident, it offers a promise of the existence of “undying love” to love struck couples.

The movie "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, ranked third as it earned $26.4 million during its second weekend.

"Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," which stars Nicholas Cage, got the fourth place. The movie is a sequel to the original “Ghost Rider” which earned $25.7 million domestically.

Romantic comedy "This Means War," which stars Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine landed in the fifth place. The movie is about two CIA agents who fight for the same woman and earned $20.4 million domestically plus $11.0 million internationally.
