Thrift Stores Becoming A Trend

Long lines had formed outside a 6,000-square-foot warehouse in Long Island City, Queens, Thrift Stores on a Saturday to grab the best buy on second hand items which range from bags, dresses, shoes and sweaters!

This wasn’t a scene at a cinema, but a November morning outside of Housing Works’ Thrift Stores, where shoppers can buy cheap Italian handbags for $25 and cashmere sweaters for even lower prices, along with dresses, pants and shoes.

Thrift stores, once thought of as dusty places and most “classy shoppers” avoided, are gradually adding perks to their offerings of lines of products and discounts that continually delight and attract a lot of shoppers.

“We’ve been really thrilled with the reaction of the customers,” said David Raper, the vice president for retail at Housing Works, a nonprofit helping people with H.I.V. or AIDS that has a dozen stores across the city.  For some people, early access and seeing the newest, hottest thing is really important,” Mr. Raper said.

Secondhand stores across the country are offering great perks combined with attractive prices and better deals!  Definitely, thrift stores nowadays are thriving.

The thrift-store business industries have thrived in a bad economy, growing 5 percent from last year, Association of Resale Professionals announced.
